Important Notes

  1. All km mentioned are according to maps in edition 26 of the Bruce Trail Reference.
  2. Hike participants are expected to wear sturdy footwear.
  3. Please arrive 10 minutes before start of hike.
  4. Always carry I.D. and your health card.
  5. For spring and summer hikes please bring sunscreen, insect repellent and water.
  6. When weather is doubtful please contact the hike leader to make sure the outing has not been cancelled or rescheduled.
  7. For the Nov. and Dec. hikes please register with the leader in order to be notified if the event is cancelled due to the weather conditions. Some activities may be changed or added due to the weather. Please check with E-notes.
  8. Potlucks will be held even if outing is cancelled.
  9. Each potluck participant is asked to bring his own dishes, cutlery, glass and drink of choice. Each participant is to bring a main dish, or a salad or dessert for at least 6 servings. The hosts will provide predinner snacks as well as tea and coffee.
  10. Out of consideration for your fellow hikers, we request that you leave your dogs at home. Free running dogs on the trails are a source of concern to many hikers and even leashed dogs may interfere with the enjoyment of others on the hike.
  11. PLEASE REGISTER FOR ACTIVITIES AND POTLUCKS WITH THE LEADER AT LEAST ONE DAY BEFORE ACTIVITY.
  12. WINTER ADVISORY: ACTIVITIES AND POTLUCKS MAY BE CANCELLED DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER.

SUN. JUNE 12 BEAVER VALLEY BRUCE TRAIL CLUB AGM

Meet at 1:00 p.m. at Ravenna Hall, intersection of Grey Rd. 2 and Grey Rd. 119 (SR 15) for a short hike with moderate difficulty.  AGM starts at the Ravenna Hall at 2:30 p.m. Potluck to follow.  Hike leader: Judy Galloway 519-599-2288.

Change of venue: The AGM will be held at the Marsh Street Centre, 187 Marsh Street, Clarksburg. Meet there at 1:00 p.m. for a short hike in the area. Meeting at 2:30 p.m.

Meet at 9:30 a.m. at the "Craigleith Depot" parking lot (junction Hwy 26 & Grey Rd. 19) to convoy to trail head for a short but challenging hike to the top of Blue and enjoy a free ride back down. Rain date: Fri. July 29.

Wed. Aug. 31 Chuck Grant Side Trail Map 25

T=Strenuous     S=Moderate

Meet at 10:00 a.m. at the Duncan Crevice Caves parking area, 9th SR (km 33.2) for a 7.7 km hike from Kolapore to Duncan. Bring lunch.  Leader: Steve Griffiths 519-538-2622.

Rating System

Terrain (T): Easy: mostly flat and good footing
Moderate: Some hills and/or some poor footing
Strenuous: Hilly with steep climbs and some poor footing

Speed (S): Leisurely=2 to 3 km/hr, Moderate=3 to 4 km/hr, Fast=5 km/hr or over

Important Please register for activities and potlucks with the leader at least one day before activity.

Trail user's code

  • Hike only along marked routes, especially on farmland.
  • Do not take shortcuts.
  • Do not climb fences - use the stiles.
  • Respect the privacy of people living along the Trail.
  • Leave the Trail cleaner than you found it.
  • Carry out all litter.
  • No open fires are allowed on the Trail - use a portable stove.
  • Leave flowers and plants for others to enjoy.
  • Do not damage live trees or stip off bark.
  • Keep dogs on a leash and under control at all times.
  • Protect and do not disturb wildlife.
  • Leave only your thanks, and take nothing but photographs.

Essential Gear for Day Hikes

1. Daypack or Fanny Pack: to carry the folllowing:
  • 2 litres of water minimum
  • food (snacks an d lunch).
  • closed cell foam square for sitting on
  • Fox 40 whistle
  • small first aid/blister kit
  • kleenex/toilet paper
  • medium zip lock bag for garbage
  • plastic bags (grocery) for muddy boots
  • disposable rain poncho
  • spare set of car keys
  • identification and health card
  • money
  • trail maps & road maps for area of hike
  • protective pack rain cover
2. Water proofed hiking boots
3. 2-pair sock system (liner sock + hiking sock, prevents blisters (no cotton!)
4. Sun screen and insect repellent (seasonal)
5. Jacket with hood (seasonal)
6. Your favourite hiking clothes - no cotton
7. Hiking stick(s)
8. Gaiters (ankle or knee high) (seasonal)
9. Umbrella (seasonal - rain or sun protection)
10. Hat (seasonal)

Note: all items that are not weatherproof should be stored separately in zip-lock bags to keep them protected.
